Drag and Drop materials not working

This has to be some settings or something wonky with my setup, but I’m using 2023.3 and none of my materials will take when I drag and drop them.

Drag and Drop from Materials list in Material panel to object in preview area
Drag and Drop from Mateiral panel Sphere to object in preview area
Drag and Drop from Material list in Material panel to item in Project-Scene tree
Drag and Drop from Material panel Sphere to item in Project-Scene tree

Each time I drag and drop the tool tip for Ctrl/alt shows up and as I hover my mouse over the model the material changes live, but when i release the mouse button, a completely different material gets applied.

I couldn’t find any settings related to this in the settings, and I don’t have any keyboard modifier apps installed, and all my keys work fine by default. any suggestions? Is this a bug? this has to be just me, or else everyone would have trouble I’m assuming.

I send a crash report yesterday because I noticed a lot of crashes while dragging and dropping materials from both the library as from the scene’s materials.

It’s a bit different than your issue since it either works or it crashes KS here. But I guess the issues are related. Yesterday the success rate of dragging+dropping materials was like 50% which is made me save before touching the materials but there’s something wrong with it.

Latest update 12.2.1 mentioned drag-and-drop crashing being fixed. It’s even worse now. I used to just get it not working, now when I drag-and-drop materials from the material panel to the scene list keyshot just disappears. Argh. Sent several crash reports because I keep doing it instinctively

We’re aware of the drag&drop related crashes and are working on a fix right now. Sorry for the inconvenience.

Update, it’s not crashing anymroe, but now drag-and-drop materials are just not working at all and itermittendly working only if I drag the sphere from material panel to preview object, or to the scene hierarchy, its either. or. not both, but sometimes neither. I’ve had to restart KS about 30 times today just to apply colors. restarting KS seems to fix it for about 10-15 minutes but intermittently. i was able to keep applying materials for CMF for a few hours this morning by having to un-link every. single. material. on my model one at a time and re-apply the new one, but the guess work of constantly keeping my eye on the scene tree to see if it worked has cost me a half-days worth of work that should take a few minutes!

If drag-drop doesn’t work, just select the materials in the library - Ctrl+C - select the parts / groups in the render port / realtime render view - Ctrl+V or Shift+RMB at parts without pre-selecting, or Ctrl+Shift+RMB to insert instances of the material (separated).

No preview like with drag-drop method!
